SEO For Beginners: A Basic Search Engine Optimization Tutorial for Higher Google Rankings

Aweber Email Marketing

Are you a newcomer to SEO? In this tutorial, learn how to do search engine optimization for your website in order to rank higher in Google. This is a very basic lesson in SEO for beginners so you should be able to follow easily.

Getting Started with SEO for Beginners – Exactly How Does Website Optimizing Work?

What is SEO?

The term SEO refers to search engine optimization. It is the process of optimizing your website to get “free”, “organic” traffic from search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing.

SEO involves optimizing both the content and the code of a website in order to make it more attractive to search engines. Basically, this includes:

  • Ensuring the content is relevant to what people are searching for,
  • making sure the website is coded properly,
  • and using techniques such as link building to increase the visibility of the website.

It is your job as a business owner, blogger, or website owner to:

  1. Create content that matches the “searcher intent” of search engines by making it easy for them to understand your page.
  2. The second step is to demonstrate to Google and other search engines that your pages are ‘worthy’ of ranking.

Sam Oh Video explains SEO 101

A brand new website can be optimized to rank nicely on Google & other search engines (step-by-step) with the help of clear examples and some simple (yet powerful) SEO tips.

This SEO training teaches the following techniques:

Keyword Research

You can find out how often someone searches for a specific keyword phrase in Google by doing keyword research.

For example, if you wanted to find out how often people search for “cat food” on Google, you could use a keyword research tool to check the average monthly search volume.

Topics that you think will be most popular are not always the best choices.

Additionally, you’ll learn what not to do (such as keyword stuffing).

About Keyword Research and Search Engine Optimization

Researching keywords gives you clues about the language you should use to let Google and potential customers know what the page is about.

In this video, you’ll find a few vivid examples to illustrate how to do keyword research. No matter where you are in your experience with SEO, I highly recommend watching this series on doing keyword research.

On-page SEO for Ranking in the Search Engines

The goal of on-page SEO is to rank high in Google by optimizing a website’s content. On-page optimization is crucial if you want to rank #1 on Google.

When gearing toward where you want to rank, remember this fact: Google handles over 90% of all search queries, and as of November 2022, 92.2% of all search queries were conducted through Google.

This tutorial teaches you 4 simple, yet highly effective tips to follow Google SEO best practices. Search engine optimization success begins with optimized web pages.

Providing this information to Google will allow your content to be found by customers and help Google understand what your content is about.

A few of the basic tips include:

  • Title tags
  • meta descriptions
  • heading tags (or H1 tags)
  • keyword usage
  • content creation
  • internal site links
  • competitor analysis

Off-page Optimizing

Off-page SEO is often referred to as link building.

In its truest form link building is the process of acquiring links from other websites to your own. This is done in order to improve your website’s search engine rankings. Your website’s links act as “votes” or endorsements.

Getting backlinks is similar to referring a friend to buy a product from your favorite store because you’ve tried, used, and loved it.

Backlinks = Website Traffic

SEO for beginnersAs a rule of thumb, you’ll rank higher in Google if you have more backlinks from relevant pages.

You will learn how Sam finds these backlink opportunities. Discover the key technique SEOs use to build links, which is email outreach.

You can watch the video series on competitor backlink analysis and link building on the YouTube channel.

Also, find a playlist on “advanced” link building.
