I agree about the niche thing. You cannot niche down too much & box yourself in. We are muiltalented people. We all have a lot to share. Perhaps one area does not work for you but if you try another area that you are good at you may totally soar! This video was very helpful. Btw I have been watching your channel for a while now. Great content! 😊
Yes, yes, yes!!! This makes YouTubing so much more interesting and FUN. We don’t live in a category so it’s nuts to ONLY focus on a narrow band of what we know or want to share. But being able to reach the people like us striving for the same things totally makes sense. Thank you!! 💯🙌🏼
Yess thats me! You are 1 of the YouTube creators I just like love! I watch all your videos 1 bc they resonate with me so much and 2 bc I love your personality! So light hearted, funny, to the point “no fluff”, very transparent and genuine! Out of all of the YouTubers I consistently follow and watch daily, your channel is the only one i aspire to be like, I want to be that comfortable in front of a camera, my personality to show through like yours does a long with the light hearted goofiness!
I think your personality always did SHINE through, Jessica. …. and it’s still fun to see you evolving. *)) Love the message! When creators focus so much on KEYWORDS instead of people, your audience can feel it.
Oh my gosh, thank you so much 😭
I completely agree with you!!! Jessica is absolutely “no fluff” … just amazing and delightful 🙂
Brilliant video, Jessica! I’ve been struggling to articulate this idea myself. I recently pivoted form the “personal finance” niche, to the “online business niche”, BUT there’s SO much I didn’t want to leave behind (like my wildly engaging anti-Dave Ramsey rants). This REALLY helps me put it into a better framework, Thanks for that!
You, TOTALLY, know your audience! Thank you for the freedom that this video presents! I have been worried about not “niching-down”, and this video helps me feel more comfortable as I have been trying to do what you suggested here.
I just sent my assistant an anti-Dave Ramsey rant so this comment made me giggle 😂😂
I completely agree with focusing more on the who and less about the what. I have been meaning to start my channel for 2 years now and I simply haven’t because I simply don’t want to get stuck to 1 niche. Thank you so much for this video. Love your personality and love your content. Keep it up. ✌🏼
Hey, Jessica! Love the “deesh the neesh” joke. Your advice here is going to free so many people from the “niche boxes” that YouTube’s many gurus have put them in.
I’ve been programming radio stations for 30 years and the one thing I know with absolute certainty is that people don’t develop relationships with stations (or niches), they develop relationships with other people. Stations that promote “the station” almost never make it to number 1. Stations that promote their personalities and help THEM build relationships with THEIR listeners do extremely well, both in the ratings and financially.
Your strategy – to identify your target audience and super-serve them – works regardless of the medium or the message. Care about your people and they will care about what you have to say.
I’d end with “good luck,” but you’re not going to need it so, congratulations on the even bigger successes to come. I’m looking forward to your future content!
This is such a great conversation. I’ve been feeling the exact same way and literally just sent an email to my list about getting away from the “shoulds” and focusing back in on creating for creatings sake.
The main topics I love are making money and mindset. But I chose to niche down to teach coaches how to market their business. I’m ditching the niche!! 🎉
Spot on!!! 🥳 There are thousands of creators who share about your topics, but none of them are YOU! We love you and your personality, that’s why we time into YOUR channel for the tips.
Jessica – I started watching your videos to learn about YouTube (and still do) but I also watch now because you are a great example of personality! Your commentary about Green Eggs and Ham made me laugh out loud. And you are relatable – I love Gilmore Girls! Anyway – thanks for having good content and presenting it in fun ways.
“People aren’t keywords!” And “Ditch The Niche” need to be new shirts from Jess
@Jessica Stansberry Is it not just time for that dude to retire? I mean really….
Girl this video has made me feel so seen!!!! Especially trying to incorporate your personality with education type of videos. Definitely looking to broaden my niche as well
Hi Jessica! I’m actually not trying to leave a corporate job, in fact I just got back into the workforce after staying at home and homeschooling my children from kindergarten to college.
That said, I subscribed to you because I like the information you give, and you sound like me!
💕Southern Girls!
Thanks for everything you do!
I’m stuck in my niche too! It’s great😂😅 love this video as I’m restructuring my 2023 strategy and it’s validating a lot of what I’m planning! You’re the BEST❤
Love to see it Millie! Let’s take YouTube by storm!!
Jessica, I feel like your personality has always been evident in your content. You’re hilarious with a big personality but also a very warm and comfort spirit to experience. Thank you for your content. This definitely is helping me get clearer on my message and direction for my brand because I know who I want my audience to be but I also don’t want to be one dimension like you said just focusing on that one particular niche.
Yes!! This was so refreshing to watch! Following what I’m really excited about feels so much more natural and fun, and actually makes me WANT to do work every day! And I think that matters more than forcing ourselves to do what we’re “supposed to” do in order to niche, because it makes me actually do more for my business!
The trouble with everything these days is everyone forgets to just be themselves, to be unique to who they are. I watch a lady who has an Etsy shop (even though I don’t have one), and she is a total different niche to what I am aiming at and also have a business website for. But I absolutely love her uniqueness, her quirkiness, her honesty, and she actually has some really good content. I watch you for some different reasons Jessica. You give great content from different sources and experiences, but most of all, I enjoy watching and listening to you. Wishing you awesomeness with “ditching the niche”.
💯 ❤️
Fellow girl in tech here and I’m literally saving up for a farm with my husband! Just staring a channel and was literally just thinking about this last night. I’m SO sick of trying to coming
Up with topics I THINK people will like instead of just being myself. Thank you so much for posting this!💚
THIS!! Yes! Love everything about building a brand around WHO you are, not WHAT you do. Absolutely agree that you need to still be clear on who your customer is, who you are helping, but LOVE the creative freedom of talking about anything you want that will serve that audience!
Hey mate, Thanks for watching ,got something new to share with you
Let’s talk now…..✍️

Exactly what you said:) I have a channel but have been stuck so haven’t been doing videos but I miss it!!! Let’s do this;). You got it!!!!!!😊
Bc of you I just made a long list of What I Enjoy talking about, what I have to share & then WHO is my audience! Girlllllfriend thank you for lighting a spark again for my channel! This is helping me so much. Now it’s just me figuring out when to hit record and just doing it!!!!!!!
Love that!!
Jessica – Thank you for the content you produce. This issue of niches is a puzzler for many of us. I agree with your analysis. What I hear you say is more about broadening the SCOPE of your niche, providing more value to your community. I totally agree that many channels do this. I would add only one caveat. If your scope is REALLY broad (as in your farming/tech) example, I feel that there comes a point where one has to consider multiple channels. I realize that you were just making a point, but I see numerous creators with several channels. I think you are spot on in focusing on your audience. That is Communication 101. Thank you again for your engaging content.
would you mind sharing the Etsy shop lady’s youtube channel..interested to see her shop! thanks!
